Ashwin Kumar is Professor of Social Policy at Manchester Metropolitan University. He has previously worked as the Chief Economist of the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, director of Liverpool Economics, an economic adviser to Gordon Brown, as Rail Passenger Director at Passenger Focus, the consumer watchdog for rail and bus passengers, a Senior Economic Adviser at the Department for Work and Pensions. He has served as a board member of the National Housing Federation, the homelessness charity St Mungo's, and the New Charter Housing Trust Group. He is a keen photographer and an FA-qualified referee.
